Summer breeze, makes me feel fine!

Greetings PM Family,

Summer officially starts tomorrow, but we know that members of this community have not let that prevent the pleasure of sunny days and warmer weather. In fact, things have heated up early for Podcast Movement too, as we have one of our biggest announcements of the year for you (keep reading).

As you know, the best way to enjoy summertime is to have a game plan in place. We’ve got you covered this week! We have some new sessions for you to consider adding to your “must attend” or “watch on the virtual pass” list. We are also proud to announce the speakers selected for Ignite! But first…

Google Podcasts joins the lineup at Podcast Movement

By now you’ve surely heard the news that many of us in podcasting have been waiting for: Google has released a native podcast app. Much like you all, we’re excited for what this means for the future of our industry, but we have questions!

Lucky for you, Podcast Movement 2018 will be your first chance to meet the team behind Google Podcasts, learn about everything you need to know about it as a podcaster, learn more about some of their big initiatives to help improve the space, and more.

We’ll have more information on this in the coming weeks, but in the meantime check out these resources for podcasters that Google sent our way.

From Downloads to Listening: Podcast Measurements Next Frontier – Wednesday, July 25 @ 1:30 pm in Grand I/J

This panel will provide the latest information on why the move to listening metrics is so important, what solutions such as Apple’s analytics and the emerging Remote Audio Data spec will mean and how they work, and how all of us can use listening data to benefit our listeners, our content decisions, and our advertisers.

Bright lights from the Earwolf, Ramsey Solutions, Midroll and Radiotopia join forces to share knowledge and experience, and help you supercharge your own podcast game.

Don’t blame the heat, summer does not start until tomorrow…

BOOK YOUR HOTEL BEFORE THE ROOMS ARE GONE

This is where we usually try to say something funny, maybe a little quirky. But the truth is, staying down the street from the conference, instead of at the host hotel, is no laughing matter. We know that it’s hot, and we know there are all kinds of distractions. But take a moment to consider how much hotter you’ll be five weeks from now having to walk across town to get to Podcast Movement (and all your friends are staying at the host hotel too).

Ignite Speakers

Podcast Movement, and Ignite sponsor Veritone One, wants to congratulate the speakers selected for this year’s Ignite event on Monday, July 23. You can learn more about the speakers and their talks by clicking here.

Even More Sunshine

  • We’re proud to announce that PM family member Mark Gillespie from WhiskyCast has been picked as one of the 10 finalists for this year’s Spirited Awards as “Best Broadcast, Podcast, or Online Video Series.” The Spirited Awards are part of the annual Tales of the Cocktail conference each July in New Orleans, and honor the best bars and bartenders around the world along with writers, and this is the first year they’ve had a category for podcasts!
  • Digital News Report put out their annual key findings, which includes some interesting podcasting insight!

We are diligently making plans to have the best summer, and the best Podcast Movement, so far! We appreciate your support for this community and look forward to the possibility of seeing you in Philadelphia next month!
